Phallus Dei was the first album by German band Amon Düül II. The Latin title translates into English as "God's Penis".
This band, PHALLUS DEI, is an experimental band founded by Oliver Lingam in 1988. It also had ambient side projects Elhaz, Phd².
You worked with a plethora of artists over the years. What collaborations were/are the most interesting and important to You and why?
All collaborators are equally precious to us. They all brought their personality into our music and everybody was an important part of that time.
Can You tell me, in short the main ideas are behind Your music? Could You name Your favorite Your compositions / albums / collaborations? What about the new album?
We are driven by curiosity and the joy of experimentation. We think there are three milestones in out musical development: Orpheus and Eurydike (1996), A day in the life of Brian Wilson (2009) and the upcoming album Black Dawn (2016). It´s a monster! It will be released on 2LP and CD later this year.
The sound is magic. You‘ve proved it. But, what ends, when there‘s no sound?
Sound never stops. There is always something to hear and experience.
What is and what is not a Sound Art?
That´s in the ear of the beholder.
What do You think about relations between the old art and computer art? Are they compatible?
A computer is just a tool like a pencil or a paintbrush or a guitar for instance. It is not the medium that defines if something is a work of art.
What do You think about thousands of Neofolk/industrial/ambient/tribal/electroacoustic/avangarde etc. bands/projects? Is it a kind of trend, o just a tendency forwards better music?
We are not concerned about thousands of other bands, we don´t believe in genres. We never felt at home in any specific scene. We are interested in artists with an authentic voice, no matter in what cathegory they are put in.
What do You know about Lithuania? What Lithuanian and foreign musicians do You value most?
Richard played with Strange Attractor twice in Lithuania. He loved the scenery especially the Curonian Spit and the countryside in the south of Lithuania. The musical standard in the Baltics is very high.
What inspires You most?
Life.
What are You working on right now?
We are currently finishing an exclusive track for the CD edition of our next album.
What does Your band name mean to You?
Fun.
Thank You.
