I am proud to review this album as it’s one of Lithuanian bands that I like very much and could recommend to any foreign listeners of such music.
So, as my reviews tend to be short as I want listeners to catch up the tunes themselves, I just will mention that from six long songs only one is sort of a ballad (“Išpažintis”, Confession), and other songs tend to balance between melodic black and heavy metal styles. The voice is clear, guitars and drums are really perfect, so 7 minutes for a song of Juodvarnis is not a long time. There are 6 songs in the new album.
As I always say about good albums – it’s a must to listen to it for at least of couple of times since you begin to understand it. This album, as the first one of Juodvarnis, is a concept one, and its songs make you travel through the dreamscapes of presumably dead man.
Juodvarnis is a young band, its members were born back in 1991–1993, when the first wave of Lithuanian pagan/black metal had started (Nahash, Poccolus, Ha Lela, Zpoan Vtenz). So, I am sure this band with its rich textures will reach its heights not just in Lithuania but in foreign lands. Even though the musicians are rather young, they’ve already played in Lithuanian metal bands Rotary Pump, Confession, Nahum, ORB, Life’s Edge, Flame Of Aeon, RoadKill, Dancing Crow, Dear Madam.
Members of the band in their interview (you can read it in Lithuanian here: http://www.radikaliai.lt/radikaliai/2211-isskirtiniai-interviu-su-legendiniais-muzikantais-nr-24-juodvarnis-video) mentioned that the most interesting musicians for them are: Iron Maiden, Metallica, Primordial, Wintersun, Devin Townsend, James Horner, Howard Shore, In Mourning, Swallow the Sun, Death and Lithuanian - Donis, Kūlgrinda, Nyksta, Devlsy, Lucifer, Ugniavijas, Kūlgrinda, Shadowdances, Inquisitor, Skylė, The Road Band, Vilkduja.
And one more very good thing about this band and its music: it’s never done carelessly. The honest attitude must be respected.
Thank you for a very good album, indeed. 10/10.
